    Replacement VCM

Okay, The transmission shop couldnt get my 4L80 to shift the way -they- wanted. They tried reprogramming the vcm, but they said they couldnt read it. Well, they went to the scrap yard a few blocks down, got a used one from another GM vehicle, flashed it with the 1500HD firmware, and stuck it in the truck.

When i get the truck back, will i have to license it? Im going to go ahead and assume they put the same VIN back in the new one. Does HPT marry the license to the VIN, the VCM serial #, or both? Im hoping the first one.

its married to the pcm that was in the vehicle.
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

Unless you purchased the year/model license initially, yes you'll need to relicense this new pcm.

Or, just read the cal thats in there (no credits used) and tell them you want your old PCM back and return to tuning it.

Well, they had taken it and exchanged it for core at the place they got it...so...cant do that.

I just did a read-entire of the new vcm, and im pretty ticked off at what they did. They didnt change around any of the lockup tables or the duty cycle tables. No wonder it feels and acts like you're just sticking your foot thru the floor and flintstoning everywhere. And i hear the converter(i think) squeal sometimes when i let off the gas after being on it. sounds like your starting an engine thats already started.

Anyways, ill just pay the money and do it again. Im out of options.

If we licensed by VIN it would make things like this easier, but at the same time, someone could flash the same vin with a tech2 or something to like 10 vcms and tune 10 cars.(or wayyy more) so sadly, i see the theory behind it.

If only i could do a write entire of my old cal into it :-P

You could do that but you'd still need to have a license for the pcm your trying to flash it into
